Summer Break, Day 1

Today was a good day.  We were minus a kid but the ones who were here worked hard and played hard.

Today we (the older kids and I) reviewed geometric shapes, talked about the differences between 2d and 3d shapes.  Afterwards (and thanks to PBS kids website) we made Cyberchase themed 3d shapes.

Once we completed Math, it was on to Science.  This week we are focusing on the weather; types, monitoring, predicting, and the job of a meteorologist.  We started with clouds; how they are formed, the types and what weather you can expect depending on the types of clouds you see.

Clouds a more complicated than they thought.

In Social Studies we are covering the United States Constitution.  The kids watched an episode of Liberty Kids that dealt with the Constitution.  Afterwards we discussed some vocabulary words, facts about the Constitution, worked on a crossword puzzle and they colored a picture of Independence Hall in Philadelphia.

Last and certainly not least, we began reading Runaway Ralph.  We will be spending time discussing each chapter, doing related activities and (at the end) the kids will do a critic review and a read, relate and respond worksheet that I grabbed from Scholastic's website.

Abbie, Noah and I spent time on starfall.com and practicing handwriting.

The kids spent the remained of the afternoon playing in the pool.

Hope your day was great!

Happy Homeschooling!
